9/11 memorial tour will stop in Raleigh

NEW YORK (AP) — The September 11th memorial is taking survivors' stories and artifacts from its planned museum on a national tour that includes a stop in North Carolina.

The 15-city tour is modeled after the 1980s campaign that raised money to renovate the Statue of Liberty.

The tour starts September 10th in Columbia, South Carolina, home to the company fabricating thousands of tons of steel for the memorial. The next stop is Raleigh.

Joseph Daniels is president of the memorial foundation. He says he hopes the memorial will be a national symbol that people will associate with being American.

The memorial previously was known as the World Trade Center Memorial. The official name is now the National September 11th Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.
