Gas prices under $3.00 spotted in Brunswick County

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — For the first time since 2010, gas prices are falling to below $3.00.

The Murphy Express in Southport, at the intersection of Sandy Lane and Howe Street, is one of the first gas stations in the area to have prices fall to this new low. Their price today – $2.99.

The last time the state saw a gas price average below $3.00 was in December of 2010. The average in Wilmington right now is about $3.15. Some Leland gas stations have unleaded gas for $3.04.

Drivers like William Ludwick said they’re skeptical about how long this price will last.

“I wasn’t sure if it would ever go below three, but it’s the cheapest I’ve seen it in a long time. I don’t look for it to stay this way long. I think once this mid-term election thing is over with things will change again,” Ludwick said.

GasBuddy predicts that 40 or more states will see gas price averages below the $3.00 mark in the coming weeks.
