WILSON, NC (CFA RELEASE) — The varsity girls tennis team defeated Parrott Academy 5-1 on Friday at the Barton College Tennis Complex in Wilson, NC. CFA advances to the NCISAA 2A Girls State Championship on Saturday, October 25 against #1 seed St. David’s School at 10am at Barton College.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — Freshman Justin Jackson scored 18 points to help North Carolina beat Fayetteville State 111-58 in its exhibition opener Friday night.
Fellow rookie Theo Pinson added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Tar Heels had five players score in double figures. The Tar Heels dominated the boards by a nearly 2-to-1 margin and finished with 29 second-chance points.
Marcus Paige added 14 points, while Brice Johnson pulled down 13 rebounds and J.P. Tokoto had eight assists.
The Tar Heels led 46-27 at halftime then shot 62 percent after the break.
Juwan Addison scored 17 points for the Division II Broncos. Fayetteville State shot 31 percent for the game.
Before the game, UNC announced that senior reserve Luke Davis has a stress fracture in his right foot that will require surgery. Davis, one of four potential point guards on the roster, will miss two to three months.

HEMPSTEAD, NC (UNCW) — HEMPSTEAD, New York – Meredith Peacock led UNCW with eight kills and Sarah Kelly and Nicole Lott added seven apiece for UNCW, but the Seahawks dropped a 3-0 decision to homestanding Hofstra on Friday in volleyball action at the Mack Center.
The Pride (20-3, 8-1 CAA) finished off a season sweep of the Seahawks to remain at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The Seahawks fell to 15-8 overall and 5-4 in the league.
Offensively the Pride combined to hit .302 on the night as Veronika Kostova held match-high honors with 17 kills while Kelsie Wills had 15 and Emily Burke added 11. Wills completed a double-double with 11 digs.
For Kelly, her seven kills were a season-high and she finished hitting .333 for the match in 12 attacks. Peacock, Kelly and Morgan Kline had three blocks apiece for UNCW, who finished with a 6-5 lead in blocks.
The beneficiary of the Hofstra offense was setter Hannah Klemm, who handed out 45 assists. Corrina Delgadillo collected a match-high 14 digs.
Up next: The Seahawks head to Boston for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday against Northeastern.
Notes: Meredith Peacock moved into a tie for seventh with 328 career blocks … Kelly’s previous high was five kills, set last outing against Towson … Kelly is hitting .395 over her last four matches (19-4-38) … UNCW now trails the all-time series with Hofstra, 22-4.
