Work underway to rebuild fire-damaged Carolina Beach Arcade

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Months after fire destroyed the iconic Arcade on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, work, including demolition, is underway to makeover the property.

Carolina Beach Town Manager Michael Cramer said crews started work last week to remove the area that was burned in last fall’s fire. This afternoon, an entire exterior wall of the building was gone while another had been braced with wood beams.

Cramer said the work would probably take several months to get the building to a point where it could get a certificate of occupancy. He said the conceptual plans he’s seen include a smaller area for the Arcade and a retail shop on the Carolina Beach Avenue side of the building with four storefronts on the backside of the building facing the ocean.
