SCAM ALERT: Scammers using WPD number again

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police Department says they’re continuing to have issues with scammers using the front desk number.

Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay said a male with a foreign accent has been calling citizens and identifying himself as an officer. Lindsay said the scammer then threatens to arrest the caller if that person does not purchase a money order.

A similar issue was reported in March.
