Woman sent to hospital following mobile home fire

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Fire investigators say a home is a total loss following an afternoon fire that sent a woman to the hospital.

New Hanover County Deputy Fire Chief Frank Meyer said the incident was reported at around 1 p.m. in Grove Park in the Monkey Junction area. Meyer said due to the age of the mobile home, the damage was a total loss. A woman, the sole occupant of the home, was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her condition and identity were not released.

Jessie Dixon, the woman’s neighbor across the street, smelled the fire from his backyard.

“I walked around the back side of the trailer and I looked and saw that my neighbor’s house was engulfed with smoke,” Dixon said. “She walked out by herself. I didn’t see any flames. I thought it was going to catch that big tree on fire.”

Deputies with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
