Pender deputies looking for ‘scam artists’

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office say they’re looking for two men who have been reported by area businesses for scamming unsuspecting cashiers.

Deputies say the scam consists of one man asking the cashier to break a larger bill, then asking for a different combination of bills while also asking to purchase something at the same time. Deputies said in the end the cashier gives the man too much money and the pair leaves. Deputies say the older man does the talking while a younger man acts as a lookout.
