Clean-up begins after yesterday’s severe weather
NEW HANOVER COUNTY/BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Severe weather yesterday evening hit parts of our viewing area pretty hard. Today crews are out in full force to start picking up the pieces.
In Wilmington there are a number of trees down, broken windows, and lost roofs.
Some businesses had to take the day off to recover from the weather. Others remained open despite the destruction.
In Brunswick Forest, lightning struck twice on the same street causing a house fire.
Deputy Director of Emergency Services, Scott Garner, said while lightning during storms is common, two that close together is not.
“That probably was uncommon type of situation. Typically we may have a few, but they’re not usually that close together. That was probably an anomaly,” said Garner.
George and Peggy Robertson have been going through their home with the help of friends and neighbors tp save anything they can from the rubble. They said they are incredibly thankful to those helping them who are acting like a family to them in their time of need.
