Area law enforcement holds Family Fun Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and other area leaders are helping the community get ready to go back to school with a Family Fun Day.

The event held today in the Hillcrest Community and featured vendors, games and coaches from area schools. Lt. Jerry Brewer said this is the first year for the event. He added it is a way for law enforcement to reach out to the community.

“We have to build this trust with the community,” Brewer said. “You can’t do it in one day. It’s the days. It’s a good day. It’s a sunny day. We can bring these companies out here along with the Wilmington Police Department the sheriff’s office and offer some information for different programs we have going on and be able to build that relationship.”

There will be one more next Thursday at Rachel Freeman Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
