Jury to deliberate in delivery driver murder trial
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s now up to a jury to determine whether a man is guilty in the murder of a Chinese delivery driver.
The trial began last week for Cornell Haugabook. He is charged in the killing of Zhen Bo Liu in 2012.
Closing arguments ended Tuesday. The defense got to go first and last. That is because Haugabook and his defense attorney decided not to present any evidence in this case. That does not happen very often.
Defense Attorney Jennifer Harjo made the closing point in her argument that the state did not present enough evidence to prove that Haugabook killed Liu.
She said the witnesses stories did not match up and the state did not show pictures of how they got their evidence.
District Attorney Bed David made his closing argument by focusing on all of his evidence. David said they have witnesses testimony saying Haugabook shot Liu in the face and they have hard evidence including finger prints on Liu’s car and audio of Haugabook making a phone call to get rid of the guns.
Haugabook faces four different charges including first degree murder. David said, if he is convicted, he will go to prison for life.
