Wilmington man in jail after argument ends in gunfire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 57-year-old man is in jail under a $10,000 secured bond after Wilmington Police say he fired three shots at another man after an argument.

Officers say they responded to reports of shots fired in the 1400 block of Little John Circle just before 9 a.m. yesterday. They say when they arrived, they saw the suspect, Melvin Wilson leaving the scene but the victim provided them with Wilson’s name and address.

Police say when they went to the address given by the victim to confront Wilson, he denied having a gun. After officers were able to execute a search warrant, they say they found the weapon and Wilson confessed.

Investigators say there were no injuries or property damage reported.

Wilson is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon among others and is scheduled to appear in court today.
