Scientists working on ‘frozen zoo’ to preserve endangered species

Scientists at the University of Georgia are teaming with Zoo Atlanta to build a genetic storage center to help preserve some animals.

Call it a “frozen zoo.”

The process involves taking cells from the skin of a sedated animal, then converting them into stem cells. From there those cells can be made into sperm or eggs.

It’s already been done with pig cells, and researchers are confident it can work with big cats.
