Weather improving, but areas still flooded

MURRAYVILLE, NC (WWAY) —   Extreme flooding is something we’ve all seen over the past few days across Southeastern North Carolina.

Conditions are starting to dry up around the Cape Fear but there are still some flooded areas in New Hanover County.

The community Northchase in Murrayville saw enough flooding to keep some people away form work.

Susan Kozusnik, Northchase resident, said, “No we didn’t go to work today. We did not want to drown our cars.”

Several inches of rain fell over the last few days on an already saturated ground.

Resident Tina Albanese said she even saw kids Sunday night out in kayaks because the water was so deep.

Albanese say her road was ,”filling up as if it was a river. It was just insane.”

Rainfall totals reached up to 12 inches, but that wasn’t nearly as bad as some places to the south of us experienced.

“Oh, it’s awful. We were actually suppose to go to South Carolina but we didn’t because of the rain,” said Kozusnik.

As the rain is coming to an end, neighbors are hoping to just get back to their normal routine.

Albanese, “Hopefully this water will recede so people can go back to their every day normal life.”
