Edgewater Club Road to close for rock removal Sunday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – North Carolina Department of Transportation crews plan to spend Sunday removing a 500-foot temporary rock road surface that was built on Edgewater Club Road earlier in October. A spokesman said that means they’ll have to close the road between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. that day.
An NCDOT news release said crews will likely take the rocks and place them at a nearby location where a New Hanover County school is planned, where they could be used as part of the construction process.
After they remove the rock material and clean the road, crews will inspect it to ensure it is safe for traffic. New Hanover County and its Emergency Management Office will send a message via a reverse phone notification to let you know about the plan and Sunday’s road closure.
The road, which is the only way out of the area, was heavily flooded and virtually impassable after record rain hit the Cape Fear. Crews had to place layers of rocks on the flooded section of road to raise cars above the water as they traveled along the road. Each end of the temporary road had a signal light that allowed just one direction of traffic through at a time.
