Howl-o-ween fundraiser held for paws4people

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Halloween is next Saturday but the organization Paws4people kicked off festivities a little early with a zombie run and other festive games Saturday at Hugh MacRae Park.

The Paws4people Howl-o-ween was an afternoon of trick-or-treating, puppy pictures, games, and their annual annual zombie run.

All of the proceeds benefit the foundation which helps to provide assistance dogs to children and veterans with disabilities.

“Clients get these dogs for free,” said IT Program Manager Chelsea Deaner. “They are such a critical assistance to their handler which is why we try to place as many dogs as we can.”

Deaner says it costs about $35,000 for each dog to go through the 2 years of training so events such as this one are so important in order to make a difference.
