Mother gives thanks to emergency personnel

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) —  A Pender County couple has added a new bundle of joy to their family, and now they want to give a special thanks to some quick-thinking emergency workers who helped them out.

Mom says she has a lot to be thankful for this year with her newborn son Osee. He was born a few days before his due date, but in an interesting way.

“As soon as they got us in the room, he was born 2 minutes later,” Lauren Fagan said.

At 1:30 a.m. Saturday, baby Osee was born with not much notice.

“I mean I told him he needed to pull over because I just knew,” Fagan said.

Fagan and her husband were asleep in their home when Lauren starting feeling contractions. Her pain increased, so they decide to go to the hospital. They said everything was fine until her water broke in the car.

“I was definitely in the moment,” husband Trey said.

The couple then saw EMS workers while en route.

“He rolled my window down and yelled that my water at broke and the baby was coming,” Fagan said. “The paramedics called ahead to the hospital and if they hadn’t have done that, we would have been in a lot of trouble.”

The couple raced against time.

“We pulled up to the hospital, and the two trucks followed behind, and luckily the officer had a wheelchair there and wheeled us in there to the delivery room,” Trey said.

With only limited staff around, baby Osee was coming no matter what.

“It was exciting looking at the expressions of the nurses faces when the doctor wasn’t even in the room,” Trey said.

While things moved faster than anticipated that night, Fagan took to Facebook hoping to give appreciation to those who helped her.

“I don’t think they get appreciated enough, so just very appreciative that they thought fast and the officer on duty, too, for getting me there quick,” Fagan said. “He was moving pretty fast.”

The couple is giving thanks to those we all depend on.

“If they hadn’t acted quickly and call ahead and had them meet me with the wheelchair, we would have been having a baby in the Mazda,” Fagan said.

We have reached out New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and we have not been able to track down those emergency personnel, but the Fagan family wanted to express their appreciation.
