Demonstrators protest fatal shooting by sheriff’s deputy

LILLINGTON, N.C. (AP) – Nearly two dozen protesters have staged a rally outside the Harnett County Courthouse following the shooting death of a man by a sheriff’s deputy last month.

The Fayetteville Observer reports the protesters held their rally Thursday, three weeks after John David Livingston II was shot to death.

According to the sheriff’s office, the 33-year-old Livingston was killed on Nov. 15 after two deputies went to a mobile home where he was staying. A statement issued after the shooting said the deputies went to the residence searching for a suspect in an assault investigation.

The sheriff’s office has referred questions about the Livingston case to the State Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating. An SBI spokesman said Wednesday that investigators are waiting for autopsy and ballistics reports.
