SPARK training is helping local students become more active
Fifty-four percent of North Carolina children are not considered physically active. That is why dozens of P.E. teachers from New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties were at UNCW Monday for SPARK training, which is short for Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids.
The program teaches instructors new physical education activities that children of all skill levels can participate in. The mission is to get fit while having fun.
“It’s going to make them participate immediately when they get into class and I’m particularly interested in the rhythmic part – getting them going to music as soon as they come into the classroom,” said P.E. teacher, Sally Meserole.
All of the teachers must use some of the material they learned within a couple days of completing the program.
