Man who escaped custody during transport to Columbus County arrested in Georgia

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man who escaped custody while being transported to Columbus County has been arrested in Georgia.
Duane Henderson Manning escaped from Probation/Parole Officers who were transporting him from Horry County to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility on Thursday, Sept. 7th.
Manning had been out on parole since 2015 following his conviction for a 1995 South Carolina homicide.
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction says Manning was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 12 by police in Garden City, Georgia while driving a stolen vehicle. He was held in the local jail overnight. Upon running a criminal information check this morning, Georgia authorities discovered he was a fugitive wanted in North Carolina and notified North Carolina authorities of his arrest.
Manning faces charges in Georgia for obstruction of a law enforcement officer and theft by possession of stolen property. The NC DAC says: Once those charges in Georgia are resolved, he can be turned over to authorities in the Carolinas.
