Time Warner Cable says 320,000 customers may have had passwords stolen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you use Time Warner Cable for your e-mail, you may want to change your password.

A TWC spokesman says the FBI recently notified the company that some of its customers’ e-mail addresses, including account passwords, may have been compromised. He says approximately 320,000 customers across the country may have been affected.

The company believes the compromise had nothing to do with TWC’s systems or processes, and it has found no evidence of a breach in our systems that operate and secure e-mail accounts for its customers.

“TWC is proactively reaching out to those customers who could potentially be impacted so they can take precautionary measures to protect their accounts by changing their password using a strong, unique alternative,” an e-mailed statement read.

Time Warner Cable is sending e-mails and direct mail to encourage customers to update their e-mail passwords as a precaution.

The spokesman did not have information on impact to North Carolina customers specifically.
