HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND: Three Bridge Tour raises money for local children

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Rotary Club of South Brunswick Islands is set to host its annual Three Bridge Tour, a unique cycling event that not only celebrates the beautiful beaches of Brunswick County but also raises funds for a charitable cause.

The event’s founder, TJ Spivey, joined the Good Morning Carolina crew on Thursday to provide insights into the event and the charitable work of the Rotary Club.

“Me and three other guys, we ride a lot together, Spivey said. “We ride Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, Holden Beach, and we were kind of joking that it would be cool to have a ride where you could do all three bridges.”

Spivey wants to clarify that it’s designed as an event rather than a race. Participants are encouraged to take their time and appreciate the scenic coastal routes.

The Three Bridge Tour features three tiers to cater to various cycling interests and fitness levels:

  1. One Bridge: A 10-mile route to Sunset Beach, suitable for all kinds of riders.
  2. Two Bridges: A 34-mile ride covering both Sunset and Ocean Isle Beach bridges.
  3. Three Bridges: The most challenging option, covering Sunset, Ocean Isle, and Holden Beach bridges, spanning 67 miles. This option typically attracts the more experienced and serious riders.

Spivey revealed that most participants opt for the Three Bridges tour, with more than 150 cyclists taking part this year.

To register for the event, interested riders can visit the official website. Registration is open until the event date, with high registration activity expected in the days leading up to the event.

Spivey emphasized that the event is not just for cyclists; it’s a community celebration. He encouraged local residents to participate by cheering on the cyclists along the route. The Rotary Club is keen to see this event evolve into a broader community celebration rather than just a biking event.
