Oak Island Police, volunteers help renovate Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter
OAK ISLAND (WWAY) — On Friday, several Oak Island Police officers joined with teams from Lowe’s Home Improvement in Southport and Shallotte to help renovate the Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter.
The Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter is a non-profit wild bird rehabilitation organization located in Oak Island, serving the surrounding areas. It was founded in 2007 to provide medical treatment for injured or sick wild birds, as well as education efforts to the public.
Recently, Oak Island officers were trained on handling and recovering injured wildlife through the shelter.
More than $5,000 in materials were donated for the effort, including new appliances and landscaping equipment.
Teams also repaired or rebuilt old bird enclosures, installed new roofing on other bird enclosures, laid mulch and rock beds, power washed fencing, and installed new solar lightning.
