Leonids Meteor Shower visible this week, peaking on Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A meteor shower is taking place this week, peaking towards the weekend.

The Leonids Meteor Shower are now viewable each night, with best conditions occurring from midnight until just before dawn.

They take place each November, displaying up to 15 meteors per hour.

This is considered a major shower, with meteors traveling up to 44 miles per second.
