Heavy rain washes away access to Ogden business

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As another rainy day made roads wet, heavy downpours created a big problem for one New Hanover County road.

When heavy rain occurs over a short time period at a certain location, that’s the perfect scenario for flooding to become a problem, especially for poor drainage areas.

Heavy rain has been isolated across southeastern North Carolina since Saturday. The National Weather Service has received several reports of more than five inches of rain in northeast New Hanover County. All that rain caused the collapse of a driveway off Amsterdam Way in Ogden.

“We had a pipe failure for this driveway and ended up having a breach in it, where the two joints join together,” Trey Moore with DOT Road Maintenance said. “Mother Nature just took it all out and everything else.”

The driveway leads to Cape Fear Collision. Although no one at the business would talk on camera, they are concerned and hope the problem can be fixed quickly. Employees explained if the road is not patched soon, customers could be turned away.
