Teacher of the Week: Jennifer Chambers

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Third year teacher Jennifer Chambers is preparing her students for college and the workforce. The business and computer teacher has had dreams of leading a classroom since she was a little girl, and now she is WWAY’s Teacher of the Week.

“I was kinda that little kid that always knew I really enjoyed teaching,” Chambers said.

She is a Career and Technical Education Teacher (CTE) over at New Hanover High School.

“So I was out in the business world and then I eventually made my way back into teaching and I love it,” chambers said.

She said she loves the melting pot that New Hanover is.

“You’ve got a huge variety of students from all different backgrounds and cultures and they just add a whole new level to the classroom, when you’ve got that kind of variety,” Chambers said.

Chambers said business skills are important for students no matter what path they plan on taking after high school.

“It carries over into them being able to help out younger siblings and help out their parents. But additionally they have big projects like senior project and so when they get to that step in high school which is a graduation requirement they’re really well equipped and that part isn’t so scary. As well as trying to get a summer job. They have the opportunity to become Microsoft Certified,” Chambers said.

She says her favorite part about teaching high schoolers is just interacting with her students.

“Not only do they learn a skill from me, but I get so much back in return from them,” Chambers said.
