NC unemployment rate remains higher than national average

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s unemployment remains stubbornly higher than the national average, clocking in at 5.4 percent in April.

That’s a bit down from the revised rate of 5.5 percent in March. The national rate remained unchanged at 5 percent in April.

Both the state and national jobless rates have been steadily improving since the Great Recession. North Carolina’s unemployment rate was 5.8 percent last March and 6.5 percent in March 2014.
