Hundreds of people plunging into 2024 for a good cause

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Lots of people are looking forward to a refreshing start to the New Year. Some are testing the waters at the 9th Annual Wrightsville Plunge.

Hundreds of people and dogs were on the beach Monday with nearly 1,500 plungers pre-registered.

It was around 50 degrees, making the dip a little more bearable than in past years.

New Hanover County resident Paul Seehafer said not only is it for a good cause but it’s an exciting welcome to 2024.

“It’s 54 degrees outside, 54 degrees in the water, and boy howdy it’s great when you have a shot of moonshine. This is my buddy Kirk,” Seehafer, said.

Profits made from the event will benefit ‘Communities in Schools of Cape Fear.’ This organization works to help keep kids in school and on the path to graduation.
