Crews in Horry County recover body of missing swimmer

NICHOLS, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a teenager has died in a swimming accident in Horry County.

Lt. Brian VanAernem of Horry County Fire and Rescue tells local media that first responders were called to the Little Pee Dee River near Nichols on Thursday afternoon after a report of a missing swimmer.

Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says they later found the body of 17-year-old Rakeen Davis of Latta.

Fowler says Davis went into the water and then went under. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
