Witnesses report 3rd shark bite in May
NEPTUNE BEACH, FL (WWAY) — A young boy was bit on the leg by a shark estimated to be 5-6 ft. long by lifeguards, according to the Neptune Beach Police Department.
NBPD said that a young boy, estimated to be anywhere from 11-13, was bit on the leg by a shark while swimming in 2-and-a-half ft. of water off Lemon St. on Sunday.
Lifeguards estimated the shark to be anywhere between 5-6 ft. long based off of the bite pattern. Authorities said that the bite did not appear to be life threatening, but that the boy did suffer sever lacerations to his calf and shin.
This is the first shark bite to happen at Neptune Beach this year, but this news comes during a time where concerns for beach goers are high.
Recently there have been concerns for high tide, over capacity, rip currents, and Portuguese Man O’ War. This is the third shark bite this month on the First Coast.
