Post-Tropical Cyclone Bonnie continues to weaken in South Carolina

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As of 11:00 am Monday morning Bonnie weakened into a post-tropical cyclone.

Bonnie will move into the Cape Fear region as a remnant low Tuesday evening. Heavy rainfall will continue to be the main issue with some areas picking up as much as 1 to 2 inches of rainfall. Winds will not be an issue, however there is a high risk for dangerous rip currents along the beaches of southeastern North Carolina.

The National Hurricane Center downgraded Bonnie, which had become a tropical storm Saturday afternoon, to a tropical depression Sunday morning. The storm stalled near Charleston into Sunday morning before slowly moving on a track towards the NNE. Bonnie is the second named storm of the Atlantic season, which does not begin officially until Wednesday.
