Tropical Storm Colin continues to track across in Gulf of Mexico

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tropical Storm Colin continues to move north toward Florida across the Gulf of Mexico. It’s located about 450 miles southwest of Tampa, FL. This is the 3rd name storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for portions of western Florida.

The system will track toward the north as it approaches Florida, near the Big Bend. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting this depression to become Tropical Storm Colin Sunday. Southeastern NC remains in the cone of uncertainty although forecast computer models are not in a confident agreement with the projected path after it passes Florida. One has the system drifting over the forecast area while another remains it off our coast. Best advice, stay tuned!

Showers, some with heavy rain, will increase Monday night into Tuesday. Conditions will also be favorable to produce dangerous rip currents, increase swell, and gusty winds especially along the coast.
