EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: The Community Connector

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Educators are wonderful, dedicated folks. Our Extraordinary Person of the Week is used to be a teacher, but she is most definitely still a leader in, and out, of the classroom.  Sabra Wright uses her talents to get some much needed resources inside our schools. She does it by getting out in the community, she’s a community connector.

Sabra Wright knows a little bit about inspiration.

“Each one of us has a job,” Wright says, “each one of us has a purpose.” A purpose she helps folks find.

“When we build communities and networks and collaborate and put those talents together,” she says, “we build a more powerful team.”

She was recently a guest speaker at a first of its kind event in the area, called “Brave Bootcamp“, to empower women.
And when she’s not helping people find their personal talents, she’s helping students get what they need to achieve.

“I go to all the title 1 schools and help match their needs with resources in the community,” Wright said of her job as a Title 1 Special Programs Specialists, “so going around to different businesses, anytime I got to an event I’m always reaching out to people and finding out how they can helps the schools and students.”

Community. Wright has been a part of it her whole life, beginning her career in the Port City as a teacher. 18 years later, she is still passionate about our kiddos.

“I believe it is our foundation,” she said, “and if our students don’t have a strong foundation and if our students don’t have a strong foundation piece, their lives are not as enriched as they should be.”

And for all of us, this motivational masterpiece in our community offers up some extraordinary advice. “Be confident in who you are and what your gift is,” Wright says, “be confident in the talent that God has placed in you, and know that no one else can take your place, you are unique.”

You, Sabra Wright, are definitely unique. And definitely extraordinary!
