Training session on navigating addiction held in Southport

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday a training session was held for those interested in assisting others navigate addiction.

In Southport at New Creations Worship Center, dozens gathered to learn how to be a helping hand.

The training is called enCompass and it’s held over a six-hour session. It’s meant to address the complex world of addiction and teach you how to help loved ones achieve recovery.

Rev. William Eberle is with the Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission. He said if you think someone is battling with addiction, don’t wait to find out, seek help.

“It takes a lot of people to help you. It takes a lot of practice and tapering down and most of the time using medically assisted treatment to recover from this,” Eberle said.

The six-hour session covered topics like signs and symptoms of addiction to be watchful for, all the way up to how to access recovery support.
