Remembering service as Leland VFW honors National Vietnam War Veterans Day
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Friday, March 29th is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, and several events honoring them were held Thursday and Friday.
In Leland, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12196 honored several living vets by awarding them commemorative lapel pins.
Local leaders from Leland and Brunswick County came out to honor the veterans as well.
Nathaniel Pringle is the commander of VFW Post 12196.
He said it was special giving the pins out to his fellow veterans.
“I mean, its a good feeling,” Pringle said. “Because I was there, I had served in Vietnam. Matter of fact, I spent 20 years plus in the military so. That said, anybody spent any time in the military, it was a sacrifice so I do appreciate them, I appreciate their service.”
There are an estimated 7 million living Vietnam veterans in the United States.
