ONLY ON 3: Mom finds toddler outside Southport daycare alone

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Most parents would agree finding the right person to watch your kids is extremely important.

For one Brunswick County mom, it was quite the surprise when she said she went to pick up her son and found him standing outside the daycare with no supervision.

“I was really just scared and worried for his safety because if I wouldn’t have pulled up when I did, there’s not telling where we would have went,” mom Kayla Criscoe said.

She says she went to pick up her 15 month old son and found him standing outside Long Beach Academy barefoot and by himself Wednesday.

“I stopped my car real quick, I got out and chased after him and that’s when the teacher opened the door and she just acted in total shock like she had no clue he was even out there,” Criscoe said.

Criscoe says the daycare told her that Bowen had pushed open the door and got out without them noticing.

After that, she began taking her son to a different childcare facility and says has filed a complaint to the state. The state would not comment whether or not they are investigating.

The director of the daycare would only give us a written statement that says, “I notified my state consultant immediately. I am cooperating with the state to resolve any issues we may have had.”
