UNCW swaps students’ t-shirts to promote Seahawk pride

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s Teal Tuesday at UNCW. It’s probably one of the university’s biggest traditions campus-wide, but now, there’s a little something new in place that has students giving the shirts off their backs.

The campus is holding a t-shirt swap.

If a student is seen wearing a t-shirt from another other school, they will give them a chance to swap it for a UNCW one.

All shirts collected will be donated to good will at the end of the year.

The purpose is mainly to promote school spirit but to also encourage students to attend and support UNCW’s athletic teams.

“We are trying to make this an organic experience to where the kids are wearing the shirts not knowing we are out here and kind of have a little element of surprise for them,” Mike Varraco, UNCW Sports Marketing, said.

They plan to set up around campus a lot over the next few weeks, but the exact location will be a surprise.

They  have collected about 35 shirts so far and their goal is collect 100 shirts.
