Brunswick commissioners approve new Board of Elections positions

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners held another budget work session on Monday, as they get close to finalizing this year’s budget.

Among the proposed budget requests was an increase to the Board of Elections budget for two new full-time positions.

The Board of Commissioners approved the funding of a new full-time administrative assistant position for the BOE and a part-time communications position.

Board chairman Randy Thompson said he trusts Sara Lavere, the director of the Board of Elections, because she is a capable manager, regardless of the circumstances.

“We spoke with the director prior to her presentation,” Thompson said. “She was going to be able to handle whatever came at her, whatever she was left with, she was gonna be able to manage it and that’s just being a good manager.”

The board will continue working on its budget, which is expected to be approved on June 20th.
