Extensive damage to Oak Island home after fire

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A fire caused extensive damage to a home on Friday, May 31.

Just after 3 p.m. the Oak Island Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire located at 3808 E Yacht Drive, at the corner of NE 59th Street in Oak Island. Crews found heavy fire showing from the right side and rear of the home.

The fire appeared to have started on the exterior of the home, and eventually traveled up into the second floor and attic. The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.

There is extensive damage to the home, however an aggressive attack on the fire allowed responders to save much of the owner’s personal belongings.

The source of the fire is still under investigation; however, no foul play is suspected.
