Surf City mayor pro-tem on bringing back ‘Surf City Live NC’ concert, who will perform

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Surf City Live is coming back this fall and we now know who will be performing.

Surf City mayor pro-tem and owner of Shoreline Events, Jeremy Shugarts, is running the event privately after the town decided not to hold the event this year.

Shugarts came on Good Morning Carolina to explain why it was canceled, how the event is going to work, and who will be performing in November.

In April, according to an announcement on the town’s Facebook page, concerns over funding, sponsorship and staff involvement prompted Surf City Town Manager, Kyle Breuer, to decide to not move forward with the 2024 event and focus on other tourism related opportunities.

“We had some negative people in the community that decided and thought that local government shouldn’t be involved in putting concerts on, so the city decided to just get rid of that process and one of the companies that I own privately decided to pick that up,” Shugarts said.

Shortly after, Shoreline Events announced it would be bringing the event back in a private capacity. Shugarts said it will be the same event that’s become increasingly popular, but even better.’

“It’s actually the same footprint,” Shugarts said. “If you go to that concert last year and this year, actually, you’ll see a better concert, because one of the things is we don’t have as many regulations government wise.”

Shugarts said the event started four years ago as a way to bring in business and give full-time residents something fun to do in the off season.

Shugarts said this year’s acts include Kassi Ashton, Easton Corbin and Clint Black. He said Surf City Live NC will be held on November 2 at Soundside Park.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at noon on Eventbrite. Click here for more information.
