No lines reported at New Hanover County precincts

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The state broke records with early voting numbers this year, but the polls seem to be pretty quiet today.

New Hanover County Board of Elections Director Derek Bowens said they did not have any reports of lines from any precincts. He said generally, UNCW has lines, because of how many voters are sent to vote.

Erik Fugunt said he was not too worried about lines when he came out to vote today.

“I kind of figured that you know most of the votes are already in,” Fugunt said. “A lot of people doing early voting and I knew just from the amount of traffic I saw going through with early voting that it was probably going to be pretty easy.”

Keith Boyd said this was his first time voting in 32 years and he was a little worried about lines.

“In years past, I’ve always seen these lines, so I was kind of hesitant, but today nothing, walked straight in was able to vote in less than 5 minutes in and out,” Boyd said.

As of 4:00 this afternoon, Bowens said more than 28,000 people have voted in New Hanover County. The polls will be open until 7:30.
