Preschool asks for tree stumps, community responds in big way
HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Last month, a preschool in Hampstead reached out to neighbors for tree stumps and limbs, and the community responded in a big way.
Just a few days before Misty Fisher’s first open house at Puddle Jumpers Nature Preschool, she was looking at a bare backyard. That did not last long.
“We had an influx of people show up at the very last minute before open house show up and just bring us stumps,” Fisher said.
She said some stumps were even waiting at their fence.
“We don’t even know who those were from, so we are grateful to whoever showed up and brought us the anonymous stumps,” Fisher said.
Fisher said she also got something a little more than she could have imagined.
“We’re pretty excited,” Fisher said. “I’ve wanted a hollow tree for our playground for about 10 years, so that was a great find.”
Whether it is hollow, anonymous, or donated, each stomp holds a special meaning.
“I mean just to know that they didn’t go to the dump and that children are going to enjoy it means a lot to me,” Fisher said.
The children have already been hard at work decorating.
“The kids were asked how would you like to decorate your outdoor classroom and they decided they would decorate with paint,” Fisher said.
Their imagination has only taken off from there.
“Glitter paint, so I’ve got to hit the Michael’s to get some glitter paint,” Fisher said.
This once bare backyard is now full of blank canvasses. Fisher said they have three acres to fill, so they can always use more stumps.
