Moderate rip current risk at area beaches

SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — Area beaches are packed for the July 4th holiday, but officials want anyone planning to get into the water to use caution.
US National Weather Service Wilmington says there is an elevated rip current risk for a majority of the Southeast coastline on Thursday and Friday.
It says Hurricane Beryl is the reason for the moderate risk. While Beryl doesn’t pose a threat to the Carolinas, the massive storm is affecting wave conditions as far south as Miami, and as far north as Morehead City.
The agency is urging anyone planning to get into the water to use caution and swim near a lifeguard.
