Trask Football Player Recovering After Injury
ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — Last Friday night, what looked like a routine football play turned into a potential career ending injury.
Michael Paul Dzurovcin was blocking on a run play when a player rolled up on his leg breaking his fibula and dislocating his ankle.
At that point, Dzurovcin feared his career was over.
“I looked down at my ankle and it looked pretty bad and I was just thinking is my football career over? I didn’t want it to be over.” Dzurovcin recalled.
After his successful surgery today, doctors gave him the news he wanted to hear.
“Everything was good and everything looked great when he was finished,” Dzurovcin said. “He said that I’m going to make a really good recovery and I’ll be back next year.”
The ambulance for Dzurovcin wasn’t the only one called to the field Friday night.
The stress of seeing his son’s injury caused Dzurovcin’s epileptic father to have a seizure.
His family says he’s doing well, much like Dzurovcin is doing now.
Michael Paul’s coach believes things will only get better.
“Knowing Michael Paul, he has a great positive attitude,” Trask Head Coach Jonathan Taylor said. “He’ll get back next year with his rehab and he’ll be back next year ready to go.”
While Dzurovcin isn’t going to play until next year, he hopes to be on the sidelines next Friday for his team’s playoff game.
“I just want to be there to support my team because they all rallied behind me. They were one of the reasons that I stayed strong that night.”
The Trask football team will conclude their regular season tomorrow night versus East Bladen.
