Families served meals on the Mayflower

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The day before Thanksgiving, families were able to come to the YWCA here in Wilmington and get fed a Thanksgiving meal from the Mayflower. That’s right, the Mayflower.

Well, it’s not exactly the Mayflower boat, but children and families at the YWCA boarded the Mayflower moving truck to get a Thanksgiving meal provided to them.

There was turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese and the rest of the Turkey Day favorites.

The Feast on the Mayflower has become a tradition for families at the YWCA for the past five years.

“We’re a family so it’s nice to gather together and do this tradition,” Interim Executive Director Katie Tate said. “We also don’t know if some of our children won’t have a Thanksgiving meal tomorrow. So we like to provide that to them today.”

Like many families on Thanksgiving, the YWCA family loves the fact that they get to share a great meal together for the holiday.
