Evan Rachel Wood speaks out on sexual assault: ‘I am still not ok’
Evan Rachel Wood is opening up about being a victim of sexual assault.
The 29-year-old “Westworld” actress alluded to a history of abuse in a Rolling Stone interview, admitting it was “physical, psychological, sexual.”
Wood later tweeted a public letter revealing her ordeal, saying, “Yes. I have been raped. By a significant other while we were together, and on a separate occasion by the owner of a bar.”
“Well, since everything is out in the open now, figured I would share the confession letter I wrote to @RollingStone in its entirety,” she wrote on Twitter, adding the hashtag #NotOk.
Wood said what she experienced took a toll on her, and she even tried to commit suicide at the age of 22. Now, “I am still standing. I am alive. I am happy. I am strong, but I am still not OK,” she wrote in her letter.
Wood said she kept quiet all these years because she didn’t want to be a “sob story” or accused of doing it for attention or be told “that’s not really rape.”
The actress currently stars in HBO’s “Westworld.” She plays the AI robot Dolores, a character who has been raped and physically abused by guests of the imaginary park. Wood told Rolling Stone that she used her “demons” when filming scenes of the hit series to make peace with her past.
