Local non-profit launches rental assistance program for New Hanover County residents
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — New H.O.P.E. CDC, a local non-profit that helps with affordable housing, announced last week the second round of its Rental Assistance Program.
The program is intended to create workforce housing initiatives, emphasizing the importance of accessible housing for societal well-being and economic mobility.
This round of the program is geared toward public workers such as police, firefighters, teachers and more.
According to New Hope CDC Communications Director Doug Wahl, within the first hour and half of applications opening this morning, they received 230 applications.
“So, the traffic has been more than we expected. You know, we know the need is huge out there and people are struggling to make ends meet and when I look at these numbers, this is a tangible sense of just how bad it is for folks out there,” Wahl said.
The application deadline for the Rental Assistance Program is Sunday, July 21st.
