Dance instructor facing child sex crimes charges
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A dance instructor in New Hanover County faces several child sex crimes charges.
Elissa Edwards, 41, is charged with indecent liberties with a minor. Online records also show she is charged with statutory rape.
According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest follows an extensive investigation into allegations of misconduct involving students from multiple dance studios across the state and multiple dance studios in New Hanover County.
Edwards was taken into custody Thursday in Raleigh and taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility under no bond.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with additional information or who may have been a victim to come forward.
