Pender County School Board approves key projects in special meeting

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Schools Board of Education held a Special Meeting on July 22, 2024, resulting in the approval of several important projects aimed at improving school facilities and accommodating growth.

Approved Projects:

1. Topsail Annandale Elementary Paving Project

   – Unanimous Approval

   – This project will provide additional parking for TAES staff and address repairs to the handicap parking area.

   – Total Cost: $69,804.81

2. Additional Parking for Topsail High School

   – Passed with a 3-2 Vote

     – Yes: Beth Burns, Ken Smith, Don Hall

     – No: Brent Springer, Phil Cordeiro

   – This initiative will create 110 additional parking spaces for THS students.

   – Total Cost: $84,051.00

3. Design Build Contract Installment

   – Unanimous Approval

   – The installment request for the Design/Build initial contract, covering 80% of the Construction Documents, was approved.

   – Total Cost: $1,318,520.00, to be paid from Pender County’s General Fund.
