Bald Head Island discusses potential curfew

BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY)– The Village Council of Bald Head Island met today to discuss a potential curfew for kids under a certain age, but they received some pushback on the idea.

Some parents and residents spoke up, with many feeling this is a “knee-jerk” reaction to a few weeks of bad behavior. They also think a curfew would end up punishing more good kids than those causing trouble.

However, Public Safety Director Joshua Gibson hopes to still increase police presence on the island.

“We have beefed up our officer presence as much as we can during the evenings. Typical times that we’ve seen are usually from 8 p.m. to midnight,” Gibson said. He hopes more police on the island will deter some juveniles from making bad decisions.

No decision was made today regarding the proposed curfew. The village still wants to continue listening to feedback to best assess what they should do moving forward.
