Price of oysters on the rise nationally, but remain stable locally

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Inflation could soon affect the price of oysters.

According to a recent report from the Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute, wholesale oyster prices soared to triple digit highs in 2022.

Prices started to come down late last year. But inflation forced retailers to raise store prices to avoid losses on their excess oyster stock.

WWAY reached out to several seafood restaurants in Wilmington, most of whom purchase their oysters locally.

All of the restaurants we spoke with said they have not raised prices on their oysters, and that wholesale prices have remained stable.
